My Story
From the 15th round to the Motor City spotlight
Isaiah "Ike" Blessitt was born September 30, 1949, and drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 15th round of the 1967 amateur draft. He tore through the Dominican League, piling up hits and home runs until the call came.
In 1972 he pulled on the Old English D as a right-handed outfielder — four games, five at-bats, one season that put a Detroit kid on a major league field. The box score never told the whole story.
What came after did. Decades in cages, dugouts, and clinics, teaching swings and standards to players who look like him.
